Happy New Year

Posted by Jane Franklin on Tuesday, January 1, 2019,
The 1st January is always a reflective time, and I find it good to take a moment to decide what direction I want my life and business to go in. I have been running my Bookkeeping business since 2011 and it has grown organically during that time. I have learned more than I thought I would as time has gone on and I have grown in confidence with my own ability to offer Bookkeeping services to businesses both large and small in the Somerset area.

Although fully committed with the service I offer ...

Long time no blog....

Posted by Jane Franklin on Thursday, October 25, 2018,
At the start of a busy period to come with the run up to Christmas, sometimes its good to stand back from the day to day and review what you are doing and decide on a (new?) direction for the future. It is all too easy to keep on keeping on with the same old stuff but sometimes we need to push ourselves in another direction. Who know what the future holds?

Posted by Jane Franklin on Saturday, March 31, 2018,
Tax year is at an end and we now need to start looking towards filing tax returns. If you are self-employed you need to make sure you have all the details of your earnings and expenses over the past 12 months. If you also receive income from a job under PAYE or a Pension you will need to wait until you receive your P60 to add to that income total.

What a week!

Posted by Jane Franklin on Friday, January 19, 2018,
What a dreadful week weatherwise with winds and cold making life miserable for most people in the UK. A tree blew down and put our phone and broadband out of action on Wednesday night by BT got it going again today. So hard to work these days without internet access and I had to use a clients office today to do some payrolls for other clients. Lets hope we soon see an end to winter and roll on Spring!

Workplace Pensions contributions increase

Posted by Jane Franklin on Sunday, January 7, 2018,

If you are an employer running a Workplace Pension you should ensure that all qualifying staff are aware of the increase in contributions due from 6th April 2018.

From this date employees will pay 3% of their earnings (after the earning threshold currently £113 pw or £490 pm) and the Employer will pay 2%. Employees receive 20% tax relief on their payments so the actual deduction will be 2.4% of earnings after the threshold, and the Government will pay 0.6% into the Employees pension pot....

Working remotely

Posted by Jane Franklin on Saturday, January 6, 2018,
I work for a large engineering company in Bridgwater and I work in their office once a week. But during the week I can access my work PC from my home office and do additional work from there. This was especially useful recently when I was unable to drive for a couple of months. I was able to keep up to date with emails, accounts and wages with no problem at all. Working remotely is so easy!
